What Is The Main Purpose Of Pole Mounted Distribution Transformers?

Aug 16, 2024

Pole-mounted distribution transformers, referred to as "pole-type distribution transformers", are an important electrical equipment in the power system. Their main uses can be summarized as follows:

1. Voltage conversion and distribution
Voltage conversion: The main function of the pole-type distribution transformer is to reduce the voltage of the current from the high-voltage power line. Usually, it converts the input higher voltage (such as 35kV or 10kV) into a lower voltage (such as 400V) suitable for users. This is a crucial step in the power distribution process to ensure that the voltage meets the needs of various electrical equipment.
Voltage distribution: The reduced voltage electric energy is distributed to each user or branch circuit through the distribution system. Pole-type distribution transformers are usually installed on public streets or urban power wiring panels to directly serve surrounding power users.

2. Improve power transmission efficiency
By reducing the voltage, pole-type distribution transformers reduce energy loss during power transmission. Although high-voltage transmission can reduce line losses, it needs to be reduced at the user end before it can be used. Therefore, distribution transformers play a connecting role in the power system.

3. Ensure power safety
Pole-type distribution transformers also have certain safety protection functions. It can isolate the high-voltage power grid from the low-voltage user end to a certain extent, reducing safety accidents caused by direct contact with high-voltage electricity.

4. Adapt to different environments
The pole-type distribution transformer adopts a support structure and can be directly erected on the pole without occupying valuable ground space. This installation method makes the pole-type distribution transformer widely used in various environments such as cities and rural areas.
